As of June 22, the 2010 Salute from the Shore has received a commitment from Charleston Air Force Base to route an existing flight over the coast of South Carolina! At 2:00 PM on the Fourth of July, a massive C-17 transport plane will begin its low-altitude run over the entire South Carolina coast, beginning in North Myrtle Beach. This is the culmination of a lot of work by a lot of patriotic Americans, including contributions of time and energy from many former and current members of our military.
We hope you are as excited as we are about celebrating the Fourth of July with a memorable and unique tribute to our armed forces around the world.
A special thanks to the Town of Pawleys Island for providing the primary venue for the event. We hope you can watch the Annual Pawley’s Island Parade and then join us on the beaches wearing and waving your red, white and blue at 2:00 PM on the Fourth! However, the plane will be over the entire coast that afternoon, so come out and support the troops by taking photos and videos that we can post here for the world to see.

My mother and I was there at Myrtle beach and it was amazing for us due to the fact that my father was a vietnam vet and my niece and son in law are both in the navy and we felt connected to them at that moment and so very proud too

My family and I participated in the salute to our troops on Sunday! We held flags on the beach outside of Pirateland Campground at 2:00. My husband and daughter even had the opportunity to share their flag with a veteran! They were so excited when he told them that he had served for 25 years! My ex husband served during Desert Storm and my son was born 11 months after his return! My family past and present support our troops and are very proud to be AMERICANS!!!! This fly over was a wonderful addition to our Fourth of July celebrations and we hope to have the chance to particpate again year after year! We thank all of our soldiers every day for the sacrifices that you make! We pray for your safety and hope you return to your families soon!

We were truly awed by the sight of the flyover. Watched it from the beach at Hilton Head Island. Wish more people there were aware of the event and its meaning. A few joined us when they saw us waving the flag. GO USA !!!

Any idea which squadron will do the flyover? I will be on the beach in Pawleys. I was active duty in Charleston from ’90-’96 and in the reserves there from ’96-’02. I was in the 15th, 16th, 17th,(active duty)Wing Stan/Eval, Spec Ops, 701st, 707th, and (reserve) Wing Stan/Eval. If anyone knows which squadron is doing the flyover, please post it here. Doug
